A Hitchhiker’s Guide To Albania - Departure
October 13th, 2007, by Hilko
I got my first taste of hitchhiking last year, when I traveled to the community of Taizé, in France. Thirsty for more, I went to Spain during Christmas break, with two friends (photos). And now Albania. Not only would it be the ultimate hitchhiking adventure for me (so far, anyways), I would see my old friends, and the places where I grew up.
And, well, I did meet old friends, and I did see those places. But in hindsight, Albania served more as a plot-device for the real story, something to give the main characters direction. The journey itself was the best part! I met a German with a sixties-fetish, and a lone Finnish IT-guy in a very, very fast car. I slept on concrete floors in small towns, and next to highways in big cities. I became part of a hippie gathering, and part of the lives of two students in Montenegro.
I’ve already shared parts of the story, but this time I want to give a complete account, and include many pictures to keep you from falling asleep. Check out this website later for the other installments of my Amazing Adventures.
